Charles Mockus

Front Ensemble Tech

Charles Mockus, is a percussion instructor based out of the Carolinas. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Music Composition from UC Berkley and expects to graduate in 2025. He is also pursuing his Bachelors in Educational and Developmental Psycology from Colorado Technical University with an expected graduation this year. He is a United States Army Veteran and spent time on the US Army Drumline filling in for their jazz ensemble as a drumset player. His experience includes performing front ensemble at Scotland High for 4 years on Marimba, marching snare with UNCPs Spirit of the Carolinas Marching Band, and performed as a mallet percussionist in world class WGI with GMUID. During that time, he studied under Matt Jorgenson, Alex Kluttz, Jay Owens, Dr. Joseph Vanhassel, Matt Penland, and various others.

A vast majority of his time is spent working with front ensembles, as well as drumlines. His work experience includes groups in a variety of different places, including North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, and Oklahoma. Most notably his time spent teaching front ensemble with Charles Towne Percussion. Charles Towne Percussion, is a WGI independent group recently placing 1st at the WGI Spartanburg Regional. Entering into this season, he was fortunate to have Wando High Schools Percussion Tech, and Vic Firth Education Artist, Chris Alaniz, take him under his wing to hone my design, writing, and instructional skills. In addition to instructing, he has written for groups such as Scotland High School, Leesville High School, and more.
