Elliott Stewart

Brass Caption Supervisor

Avid educator, musician, conductor, and composer/arranger Elliott Stewart is no stranger to making music in the Carolinas! Elliott graduated from Irmo High School then earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Furman University in 2016 and his Masters of Music degree in Music Education from Converse University in 2019. During his experiences in post-secondary studies, Elliott performed in the Furman Bands and Furman Singers, and held many leadership positions including co-trumpet section leader of the Furman Paladin Regiment Marching Band, a position he held for two years. He was a graduate assistant and graduate conductor of the Converse Wind Ensemble. In the summer of 2014, Elliott was a marching member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps based out of Atlanta, GA.

Elliott’s teaching experiences in the marching arts include Boiling Springs High School, James F. Byrnes High School, Ridge View High School, and Westwood High School. As a marching and brass instructor at these fine programs, Elliott was able to collaborate with staff to earn consistent appearances in SC State Marching Band Finals Championships, including a top-3 placement and a State Championship title, consistent finals appearances in Bands of America Championships, and ensure excellence in their students.

 

Currently, Elliott is a middle school band director in Richland School District Two in Columbia, SC, a district where he has taught since 2019. During his teaching career in Richland Two, students and ensembles under his leadership and collaboration have achieved success in their respective avenues including frequent South Carolina Region and All-State chair placements, consistent Superior and Excellent ratings at both SC Solo and Ensemble Festival and Concert Performance Assessment, and appearances at various honor band clinics and conferences.

 

Elliott is an esteemed conductor who immersed himself in many conducting workshops and symposia, including the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities Wind Band Conducting Workshop, where he performed publicly as one of four Chamber Winds Conductors. Elliott has also had the privilege of conducting professional wind ensembles and musical theater companies such as Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony from Knoxville, TN, Carolina Wind Symphony from Columbia, SC, the Lakeside Summer Concert Band from Greenville, SC, and the Westonka Community Theatre from Mound, MN. As a rising composer and arranger, Elliott has many of his music performed by several high school, college, and professional ensembles, one of which,“The Magic Within '', can be found with T.U.X People’s Music Publishing Company based out of Denton, TX. As a professional trumpet player, Elliott has performed in and currently performs in many university and professional orchestras and wind ensembles, community brass bands, and armed forces ensembles including the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band in San Antonio, TX and the U.S. Air Force Concert Band in Washington, DC as a Collegiate Fellow.

 

Elliott’s professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor’s Society, the South Carolina Band Directors Association, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association. Elliott’s primary approach as a music educator is to provide all students from various backgrounds with opportunities to be successful independent learners through the vehicle of music education. He believes how the power of music has become a meaningful tool for young performers to embrace their true authentic selves.

 

A current resident of Irmo, SC, Elliott enjoys the outdoors, running in half-marathon and 5K/10K races, and maintaining a healthy active lifestyle through physical fitness.
