FAQs

Q. IS THERE AN AGE REQUIRMENT TO AUDITION?

A. Myrtle Wavez plans to follow DCI's open class and world class age requirement even though the Soundsport category does not have an age limit. DCI limits the age of participants for Open Class and World Class corps to "21 years of age and younger." Students younger than 15 years of age will be considered for our corps based on talent level, maturity level, and parental involvement.

Q. CAN I ATTEND CAMPS IF I AM A WOODWIND PLAYER (i.e. Clarinet/Saxophone)?

A. Absolutely, We welcome all students to our camp. The skills we plan to teach will improve your overall abilities as a performer. Any student will be able to take the skills learned and apply them to their music programs at school.

*Important Note* It is important to understand our intent is to arrange music for a traditional brass and percussion corps style drum corps. We encourage woodwind players to bring a brass instrument with you to camp or give us enough notice so we may have one readily available for you to learn at camp. Woodwind players may also audition for any section of the corps but must advise us ahead of time so proper arrangements may be made.

Q. SHOULD I BRING MY OWN INSTRUMENT AND EQUIPMENT?

A. Yes, for the first year we ask that students bring their own instruments to camp and color guard bring their own equipment. Our intent is to eventually have a full line of instruments for students to sign out. Until then, students must come to camp with their own instrument. If we have enough advance notice, we may be able to provide woodwind players with a

brass instrument, drum or colorguard equipment.

Q. WHAT KIND OF STICKS SHOULD I BRING IF I AM A PERCUSSIONIST?

A. Myrtle Wavez is proud to partner with VIC FIRTH. Students auditioning on percussion should bring Vic Firth Sticks and Balter Mallets only to camp. Our instructors have chosen the preferred sticks of choice for auditions and performances which can be found in our store. Students who purchase sticks outside of our store should ensure that sticks match items in our store. Students may purchase sticks ahead of time in our store no later than one month prior to camp and should bring a spare set of sticks in case inventory is late arriving.  This will give us the best opportunity to ensure sticks are in stock and make it to you on time.  Myrtle Wavez will attempt to have items on site but can make no guarantee of inventory amounts. Mallet players should rewrap any worn Vic Firth mallets prior to camps and ensure items appear in their best condition.  Percussionist should try to keep all sticks in a top aesthetic performing condition throughout auditions and performances.
